OpenOffice for Mac is a cross-platform office suite with a functionality similar to Microsoft Office. OpenOffice provides spreadsheets desk, a word processor, programs for creating presentations, a database program and a formula editor.

So OpenOffice can import MS Office documents or save documents as such. More over, it supports the open ODF format (Open Document Format).
